About Me
Hi, I'm Saptarshi Patra, a wildlife photographer currently based in Bangalore, India.
Born and brought up in Kolkata, West Bengal, I graduated from Jadavpur University and work as a software engineer by profession. While software engineering is my profession, wildlife photography is my passion.
My photography journey began in 2012 when my job gave me the opportunity to buy my first Canon DSLR camera. Like many photographers, I started with landscapes and travel photography. Over time, my interests evolved, and I found myself increasingly drawn to wildlife and the challenge of capturing behavior, action, and emotion in the natural world.
A turning point came in 2022 when I captured one of my favorite photographs. That moment changed the way I looked at photography. From then on, I decided that I would no longer do photography during my travels—instead, I would travel for photography.
The same year, my wife gifted me my first Sony full-frame camera. Her constant support has played an important role in my journey, encouraging me to explore new destinations and spend countless hours in the field pursuing the images I dream of creating.
I am particularly passionate about photographing tigers, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and birds in action.. Whether I am waiting quietly in a tiger reserve for the perfect stare from a Tiger or Leopard, or spending hours beside a wetland hoping a bird will finally take flight, I enjoy the patience that wildlife photography demands.
One of my favorite places in India is Dhikala in Corbett Tiger Reserve. Few experiences compare to sitting silently in the forest, absorbing its sounds, and waiting for nature to reveal a special moment.
For me, wildlife photography is not only about creating beautiful images. It is about experiencing nature, understanding animal behavior, and telling stories through photographs. Every image on this website represents a moment that can never be repeated—a brief interaction between patience, preparation, and the unpredictability of the wild.
Every photograph tells a story.
Thank you for visiting my website and being part of this journey.
